new food market in town

Yesterday I went to check out the new St Georges Mall Food Market.

It began in February and is run by the same people who do the Tokai food market, known as the EarthFair Food Market. The market runs every Thursday from 12-noon to 6pm.

Although it is a bit smaller than I thought it would be, it does offer a nice variety of lunchtime meals, pastries, cupcakes, veggies, organic health products, cheeses, biltong, relishes, olive oils, jams, freshly squeezed juices and so on.

It was fairly well supported when we arrived at 1:30pm. Clearly the lunchtime crowds were out.

I bought a jar of organic fynbos honey (320ml) for R40, a small jar packed with dried chillies in extra virgin olive oil for R30 (great for pastas or with cheese they told me), and a medium slice of creamy Gorgonzola for R30 (It was just too dreamy to resist!).

The person I was with bought a box of cupcakes (peppermint, black forest, cookies&cream and red velvet) for R55 and bought a variety of fresh produce. Other lunchtime meals on offer were: springrolls, calzones, burgers, a big variety of home-made pies, sandwhiches, wraps and more…

The pies and breads looked amazing!

I really enjoyed myself and would love to go again sometime.

Visit www.earthfairmarket.co.za for more info.

You can park in the Mandela Rhodes Place parking and the market is right outside the hotel entrance (by Winescence and Doppiozero).
