wine and music

Yesterday we went for a picnic at the Helederberg Nature Reserve. Thankfully while it was drizzling in Cape Town it was a beautiful sunny evening in Somerset West. I was plonked comfortably under an oak tree eating pate and crackers and drinking a fabulous new wine.

New as in I hadn’t tried it before.

We stopped off at Manuka CafĂ© & Wine Boutique (www.manuka.co.za), which is thankfully open on a Sunday. Even in the day and age it’s tricky to buy wine on a Sunday afternoon in this country.

They have a wonderful collection and very informative shopkeeper, who helped us select this gorgeous, smooth and moreish wine: The Cederberg 2007 CABERNET SAUVIGNON (cederbergwine.com).

Manuka sells it for R135 per bottle.

Big Sky – who won an FNB Music Award for ‘Best SA Rock Act’ in 1996 – entertained us ‘til the sunset.

It was unfortunately the last of their summer concerts. But keep them in mind for next year as they aren’t nearly as crowded as Kirstenbosch and you get to see the bands up close.
