NEW Daily Food Market at the V&A Waterfront

Today is the opening day of the much-anticipated V&A Market on the Wharf. This first-of-its-kind food market offers established, permanent stalls open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 9:30am to 7:30pm. I went to the launch of the market last night and snapped a bunch of photographs to illustrate the type of vibe/atmosphere the market has and the stalls that are there.

They offer a special DROP AND GO facility, plus more than 1000 safe, undercover parking bays just outside – which is more than can be said for any of the other markets.

Nap Living has their own stand, also selling the renowned Deluxe Coffee
The Waymenels stand offers the lusted-after Stellenbrau beers

Totally Wild offers great aloe drinks and By Nature offers preservative-free nuts and dried fruits

Adam's selection of fruits

Anybody for a Hotdog?

A lovely array of flowers are on offer from the Aspen Flower Market under the stairs to the second level

These juices are bound to kill any hangover
Get your mozzarella fix here

Various cheeses and quality biltong from stokkiesdraai

Buy wheels or whole slices

Easy bread recipe for home baking

Love these jam jars!

Jean-Pierre Chocalatier has an awesome gourmet chocolate stand

I love his carving of the market logo out of this slab of chocolate

The Oryx stand... great quality salt - makes for a nice stocking filler too

The upstairs bar - can I hear a 'hell's yeah!!!'

.... and the jolly barmen - expect more craft beers on tap soon. Currently they have Drayman's Weiss and a host of other bottled craft beers

View of the market from the upstairs section

The Oyster Lady is just one of the vendors on the upstairs section. Her oysters are from Saldanha Bay

In upstairs corner is a beautiful 'book shop' selling South Africa food-related and recipe books

Good quality, free-range meats and eggs are available from Angus Meats

The market offers a 100% Kosher stand: Berkies

Delicious breads and sandwiches available from a German bakery stand. Good news is that they will be stocking a few gluten-free, wheat-free options :-)

Mingwei Tsai of Nigiro tea - his philosophy: 'the world would have much less violence if everybody took time to drink tea together'

There is also a demo kitchen by Careline and Whirlpool, where Sue Ann Allen will host the first of many food pairings.

I'll be heading back to the market this weekend to check it out in full swing :-)
